Call to Action: Anti-Sportsmen Bills on Tuesday Committee Calendar
It is no surprise that anti-sportsmen legislators are not wasting time scheduling legislation to add more restrictions on us and our way of life. The only way we can slow down the extremists is by being more actively involved and engaged in the process of protecting our values, rights and heritage at every level.
This coming week will be busy at the Capitol. Several anti-sportsmen bills are scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Several of those bills have already been scheduled to be heard in Executive Session for a potential vote later in the week.
Gun-control activists claim these laws are needed to protect the public from violent crime. This is far from the truth. None of the bills will do anything to reduce or stop the criminal misuse of firearms. These bills only crater our rights so some can “feel good” about doing something. We cannot let that happen!
Please use each of the Take Action buttons to ensure each committee member receives your email urging them to OPPOSE respective bills.

House Bill 1386 imposes an 11% “sin tax” on the purchase of firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition. The tax will be used to maintain or enhance programs that aim to prevent suicide, reduce firearm-related domestic violence and support victim services. These are important programs, but they should receive general funds as it is a statewide issue. Sportsmen should not bear the burden of paying for the misuse of firearms.
House Civil Rights & Judiciary at 10:30 a.m. in House Hearing Room A and virtual
House Bill 1163 requires a permit-to-purchase and enhances requirements relating to the purchase, transfer, and possession of firearms.
House Bill 1132, also known as one firearm a month, limits the purchase of a firearm to one in a thirty-day period. HB 1132 does not stop there. The bill also limits the purchase on the amount of ammunition that can be purchased in a thirty-day period.
These bills are also scheduled to be heard in Executive Session for a potential vote at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24.
Senate Law & Justice Committee at 8 a.m. in Senate Hearing Room 4 and virtual
Senate Bill 5099 establishes additional requirements for licensed firearm dealers (FFLs). Last year, additional restrictions were imposed, but because these have not taken effect, there is no data verifying how effective those laws were in reducing firearm crime. Yet, the extremists already want to impose more restrictions on FFLs, adding cost and red-tape for law-abiding citizens wishing to exercise a fundamental right.
SB 5099 is also scheduled to be heard in Executive Session for a potential vote at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23.
