Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m., the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) is having its March meeting to discuss and vote on several items that will define Louisiana’s upcoming hunting and fishing seasons, including the 2026 black bear and red snapper season, public comment opportunity, and more.
Key Topics and Meeting Agenda
Here are some specific times that will be covered:
- The Department is introducing a Notice of Intent (NOI) to establish the 2026 season. This includes critical discussions on expanding hunting areas and adjusting bag limits. We must show our support for science-based management to ensure this opportunity continues to grow.
- The Commission is currently reviewing public comments on the rules that will govern our seasons for the next two years. This includes season dates, bag limits, and WMA-specific regulations. If you have concerns about season structures or access, this is the final window to ensure the Commission hears the sportsmen’s perspective.
- The 2026 private recreational Red Snapper season and creel limits will be set during this meeting.
Why You Should Attend
Decisions are made by those who show up. Anti-hunting groups often use these public forums to pressure the Commission into restrictive policies. We need a strong showing of orange and camo in the room to remind the Department that Louisiana is the Sportsmen’s Paradise and must remain that way.
