Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11, the Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will convene in Lansing for a critical session. The future of Michigan’s hunting and fishing traditions is being shaped right now, and your voice is needed to ensure those traditions remain secure.
Active participation in these meetings is vital to ensuring that the perspectives of the sporting community are considered in decision-making.
What’s on the Agenda?
The agenda for the March meeting includes several items of interest to Michigan sportsmen and women:
- Wildlife Management: Discussion on baiting regulation options and the annual update from the Wildlife Division.
- Migratory Birds: A review of migratory game bird regulations.
- Fisheries: Updates regarding the Fish Protection Fund and the potential impacts of hydro dam sales.
- Furbearers: Proposed amendments to the Wildlife Conservation Order concerning raccoon management seasons and methods of take.
Why Participation Matters
Decisions made during these sessions have a direct impact on how natural resources are managed across the state. By attending or submitting public comments, you provide essential firsthand experience and feedback. Public testimony is typically limited to three minutes per individual, allowing individuals to speak directly to the commission on the items listed above.
