Legislation introduced in New Jersey by Assembly Member John Burzichelli would allow Sunday Hunting with a gun during the state deer gun season. Assembly Bill 1699 and Assembly Bill 1713 have been referred to the Assembly Committee on Agriculture where they await a hearing.
Take Action Today! New Jersey sportsmen should call their assembly member and ask them to SUPPORT Assembly Bills 1699 and 1713. New Jersey members can contact their delegate by using the Sportsmen’s Alliance Legislative Action Directory.
Currently, Sunday hunting is only lawful during the regular deer archery season. AB 1699 and AB 1713 would allow sportsmen to hunt on both public and private land with a firearm on the Sunday of deer gun season as well. Adding an additional day of weekend hunting will assure that working sportsmen have more opportunities afield to pursue deer.
Assembly Bill 1713 also includes more specific language that would authorize hunting on Sundays on federal military lands and at the William J. Hughes technical center. This would require approval from the proper military or administrative personnel.
“Assemblyman Burzichelli is doing New Jersey sportsmen and women a great service by fighting to create more hunting opportunities through expanded seasons and increased access to public lands,” said Jacob Hupp, associate director of state services at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Access is one of the biggest challenges facing sportsmen today but thankfully, bills like these will expand access and increase the amount of time our New Jersey members can spend in the field and for that we applaud Assemblyman Burzichelli’s efforts.”
