On Monday, the Senate passed House Bill 1412 establishing a statewide standard of care for canines and protecting sporting dogs and hobby breeders. This important legislation will now return to the House for concurrence. This vote could take place as early as tomorrow, Thursday, February 22.

As previously reported, HB 1412 establishes a statewide standard of care for dogs sold by commercial dog breeders and brokers, retail pet stores, and animal rescue operations while ensuring hobby breeders and small sporting and hunting dog breeders are protected from the bureaucratic red tape that is required by a commercial business or animal rescue operation.
