The Sportsmen’s Alliance and Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation are the advocates for protecting hunters, anglers, trappers and shooters nationwide at all levels and branches of government. We accomplish this through the courts, the legislative process and through educational programs. We educate the public to better understand and support outdoor sports and we encourage family involvement to ensure that these traditions endure. Finally, we do everything in our power to uphold the highest standards of professional wildlife management in the course of accomplishing our work.
Everything we do, every campaign we wage, every program we launch, every lawsuit we file, is done to protect and advance our rich heritage of hunting, fishing and trapping, and to create a political and social climate that makes it difficult to operate for those who would attempt to eliminate our way of life.
There are a number of organizations that are doing quality work on behalf of habitat, gun ownership, sportsmen’s access and a host of worthwhile issues. Often we partner with these groups. And while it is true that sportsmen’s interests are damaged when wildlife habitat is degraded or lost, or if landowners close their lands to sportsmen, these other organizations exist for the primary purpose of addressing those issues.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance and Foundation exist to meet and defeat any individual or group, including the radical animal-rights lobby, who would attempt to curtail our outdoor heritage.
How We Advocate
ADVOCATE IN ALL
50 STATE LEGISLATURES
By far the most popular attack on our heritage comes in state legislatures. The Sportsmen’s Alliance monitors thousands of bills every session in all 50 states. We lobby on behalf of legislation that promotes and protects our passions and against those bills that over regulate, economically cripple or otherwise destroy hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting and the scientific management of wildlife. ADVOCATE IN
STATE & FEDERAL COURT
The animal-rights movement has increasingly turned to the courts to stop hunting, access to public lands and to stymie the scientific management of wildlife at the state and federal level. The Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation engages these legal challenges and fights them head on, while also using the courts to enforce the rule of law, to protect you and your passions. Read more about our court cases below, and to support our efforts in the courts, you can donate to the Sportsmen’s Legal Defense Fund.
ADVOCATE AT
THE BALLOT BOX
State wildlife management is particularly vulnerable to ballot-box attacks. Urban areas are susceptible to emotional animal-rights messaging, and sportsmen are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to funding a ballot campaign. Our genesis as an advocacy organization traces back to a 1977 ballot initiative in Ohio that would have banned trapping. We repelled that attack and have continued to protect states from the insidious abuse of the ballot box by the animal-rights movement.
