Earlier this week, the 2024 Delaware Legislative Session adjourned sine die. This means the session has concluded for the year.
This year, there was a handful of sportsmen-related bills introduced. Only one rose to the level of needing action, HB 271, which was signed into law by Governor John Carney.
This important bill expands Sunday hunting to include game birds giving sportsmen and youths an additional day to engage and share in one more day of life.
In the last week of the session, SB 303, a bill to start the process of adding the right, fish, and trap to the Delaware Constitution was heard by the Senate Executive Committee. Unfortunately, time ran out for this important bill to go any further this year.
Governor Carney also signed HB 431 into law. This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, through regulations, to determine which species of live bait may be harvested, imported, transported, sold, or used, in the tidal and non-tidal waters of the State.
Even though the 2024 legislative session is over, the Government Affairs team will continue to monitor activities throughout the First State. You never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise. Feel free to check out our interactive map to see which bills we were monitoring in Delaware.
Please share this message with your family and friends, as sportsmen throughout the state must continue to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
