Last week, the Oklahoma 2024 legislative session adjourned sine die. This means the regular legislative session is completed for the year.
This year, there were several sportsmen-related bills introduced. Nothing rose to the level of needing action. One sportsmen-related bill was sent to Governor Jeff Stitt, which he signed into law and will take effect on July 1, 2024.
Senate Bill 941 consolidates the state’s more than 50 options for hunting and fishing licenses into 15 and requires the Wildlife Commission to submit a report to the legislature every five years with proposed licensing fees based on the latest Consumer Price Index. The bill also increases the age for when a resident and nonresident is required to possess a hunting and fishing license from 16 to 18, and clarifies that a resident in possession of a lifetime hunting license, or combination hunting/fishing license, is exempt from the annual black bear license requirements.
Even though the 2024 legislative session is over, the Government Affairs Team will continue to monitor activities in the Sooner State as you never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.
On our interactive map, you can view the bills we monitored during the legislative session. Don’t forget to share this alert and future alerts with your family and friends, as sportsmen throughout the state must continue to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
