Last week, March 11, the gavel fell, closing the 2026 Wyoming budget session sine die. In legislative terms, “sine die” (Latin for “without day”) means the assembly has finished its business and adjourned for the year without setting a specific date to return. For us, it means the legislative clock has stopped, and the fate of this year’s bills is sealed.
Here are some of the key measures we tracked that were approved by the Legislature and Governor Gordon.
- SF 26: Restructures how the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission pays property taxes. Signed March 6.
- SF 27: Allows the use of leashed blood-trailing dogs to track and recover black bears. Signed March 5.
- SF 66: Allows nonprofits to facilitate donated licenses for hunters with life-threatening illnesses or vision impairments. Signed March 7.
- SJ 9: A joint resolution calling on Congress to protect Wyoming’s access to public lands for hunting, fishing, and trapping. Signed March 9.
Ongoing Advocacy and Monitoring
While the session is over, our work is not. Animal extremists and anti-hunting and gun groups never clock out. They are already pivoting to the interim period, looking for ways to bypass the legislature through ballot initiatives or administrative rule changes that threaten our traditions and lifestyle.
We’ve seen it in neighboring states: the moment we look away, they strike. We need you to stay engaged, keep your boots on the ground, and be ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice.
