Take Action! Delaware sportsmen and women should call Gov. Markell at (302) 744-4101 to express their support of HB 289.
On June 7 the Delaware Senate passed House Bill 289, which would allow hunters to pursue whitetail deer on private and public lands on five specified Sundays. The five Sundays would include one in October during muzzleloader season, two Sundays in November, and one Sunday in both December and January during deer shotgun season.
“While House Bill 289 is limited to only deer hunting, it is a good first step to update the state’s antiquated Sunday hunting laws,” said Luke Houghton, Sportsmen’s Alliance associate director of state services. This will help bring Delaware in line with the vast majority of states who allow hunting on Sunday.”
Many sportsmen and women today work during most of the week, which leaves them one day on the weekend to go hunting. Now, with the addition of these five Sundays, hunters will have more opportunities to get into the field. The result is more opportunity for sportsmen and more money pumped into the economy, while giving landowners more control over their own property.
House Bill 289 has passed both legislative chambers and will proceed to Gov. Markell to be signed into law.
