Earlier this week, the Massachusetts House Democratic leadership officially stripped the Governor’s request for Sunday hunting and archery reforms for the sportsmen of the Bay State from the supplemental budget bill (H.5377) and immediately rolled it into H.5493. The Sportsmen’s Alliance appreciates the efforts of Representatives Kelly Pease and Leigh Davis to file a last-minute floor amendment to H.5493, which unfortunately was defeated.
Sportsmen still have an opportunity to get this important language passed in the Senate. Use the Take Action button to contact your state Senator and Governor Healey and urge them to amend H.5493 to include the repeal of the Sunday hunting ban and archery reforms.
As previously reported, in April, Governor Healey took a historic step by introducing provisions to modernize wildlife management in the Commonwealth. Massachusetts remains one of only two states in the entire country with an absolute ban on Sunday hunting. Despite a MassWildlife public comment period showing 70% of residents backed these common-sense reforms to handle our exploding deer populations, urban politicians chose politics over science.
