Alaska: Hunting, Firearms Protection During State of Emergency Hearing March 16

The Covid epidemic exposed an alarming tendency of governments to restrict constitutionally protected freedoms under the guise of an emergency, including such actions by the municipality of Anchorage. Pro-sportsmen legislators are working to ensure that will not happen again.

On Thursday, March 16 at 8 a.m. via teleconference, the House Community & Regional Affairs Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 61 prohibiting state and local governments from restricting the possession, purchase, or carry of firearms during a declared emergency.

Please use our take action button to email the members of the committee urging them to SUPPORT HB 61 and put in place important safeguards to protect sportsmen and gun owners during declared emergencies.“Covid illuminated the bad tendency of government overreach during a crisis,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs for the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “With good reason, many in the sporting community are now pressing for changes that will protect hunters, anglers and trappers when a state of emergency has been declared. We encourage the Alaska Legislature to pass House Bill 61.”
