Animal-rights advocates do not hide their disdain for hunting and make no bones about wanting to destroy the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Although this system has been successfully in place for well over a century in Vermont, S. 258 will change everything, and this is what the animal extremists want.
A public hearing was held last week on a bill (S. 258) to change Vermont’s Fish & Game Board and Department into something much different, with anti-hunting voices, policies and direction. All one has to do is look to a state like Washington to bear witness to the destructive ways that groups like Project Coyote will wreak on fish and wildlife if given the chance. Now Project Coyote is pushing S. 258 to create the opening they’ve repeatedly tried to implement.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. in room 8 and on Zoom, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy has scheduled a committee discussion and a possible vote on S. 258. Please use our Take Action button to email the committee members urging them to vote No on S. 258. Committee members need to know the extreme mentality of groups like Project Coyote have no place in Vermont. If S. 258 passes, the outdoor community will be cratered while fish and wildlife populations are ravaged by bad management.
Senate Bill 258 proposes a change in the authority of the Fish & Wildlife Board, its composition, while also restructuring the appointment process. If this wasn’t bad enough, the bill also bans coyote hunting with dogs and implements vague and unenforceable baiting requirements.
According to an article by Abagael Giles in the Vermont Public, the Fish and Wildlife Commissioner, Christopher Herrick, stated in the public hearing, “The Fish and Wildlife board has been effective, and the existing system has served Vermont well. He urged lawmakers not to tear it down because they disagree with parts of a rule, a dispute he points out is being hashed out right now in state courts.”
Sportsmen throughout the Green Mountain State must Take Action today and stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
