UPDATE! Arizona Bill Designates Gun Stores as Essential Businesses

***Arizona Senate Bill 1382 passed out of the Arizona House of Representatives by a vote of 31-29. The bill will now be sent back to the Arizona Senate for a concurrence vote where it passed in March by a vote of 16-14. After the final concurrence the bill will be eligible for the Governor’s desk. There are two days remaining in Arizona’s 2021 legislative session.

Take Action! Arizona members should contact their state representatives and urge them to support Senate Bill 1382. Arizona members can find their legislators by using the Sportsmen’s Alliance Legislative Action Center.

This legislation codifies into law that stores that sell firearms or ammunition are essential businesses and no orders or restrictions can be placed on their normal operations under a state of emergency. During the COVID-19 pandemic Gov. Doucey specified that firearms and ammunition stores were essential, but this legislation would make it law regardless of future governor’s views.

“We thank Gov. Doucey for ensuring Arizona citizens have had access to firearms and ammunition in this time of emergency,” said Jacob Hupp associate director of state services at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Law-abiding citizens have a guaranteed right to protect themselves and their family, and now in Arizona, thanks to Sen. Wendy Rogers’ legislation, those citizens can be sure they will have the ability to do so when it matters most.”
