Any day, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) could approve or deny a restoration management permit (RMP) application submitted by the Catalina Island Conservancy (Conservancy) to eliminate 1,800 to 2,000 mule deer that reside on the island.
The official mission of CDFW is, “To manage California’s diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.” Eliminating a wildlife population is not managing.
Please use the Take Action button to email the Director of CDFW and the Governor urge them to deny the Conservancy’s permit to eliminate the Catalina Island mule deer population.
Conservancy Seeks to Circumvent Mule Deer Management
The Catalina Island Conservancy is seeking to circumvent management of the island’s mule deer population through an RMP and is requesting, in that permit, to eradicate the island’s mule deer population. The RMP does not use credible science and data to support an informed decision on the eradication of the island’s mule deer herd.
CDFW’s SERP Decision Raises Concerns
The Department recently approved the Statutory Exemption for Restoration Projects (SERP), which short-cuts specific fish and wildlife restoration projects from the standard environmental review process. The Department needs to hear from us, urging them not to shortcut the lives of 1,800 to 2,000 mule deer.
How to Help Stop the Annihilation of the Herd
Don’t forget to share this email with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen. Urge them to Take Action and email the Department and the Governor to STOP the annihilation of the Catalina Island mule deer herd.
Protecting Our Outdoor Heritage and the Golden State
There has never been a more crucial time in sportsmen’s history than now to be involved and engaged in protecting our way of life. If we remain silent, others will shape the outcome. We cannot allow that to happen in the Golden State. Urge your family and friends to join you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance in the fight against the rising tide of animal extremism and gun control activism. The legacy of hunting, fishing, and trapping depends on our actions today.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing, and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler, and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square, and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
