Animal-rights extremists continue to work their agenda into law throughout the nation. This morning, they were in Tallahassee again working to pass legislation to allow a cat or dog legal representation in criminal court.
Unfortunately, the Civil Justice Subcommittee passed House Bill 989, the bill to allow the court to appoint an attorney or a supervised law student to represent the health or safety of a cat or dog.
Sportsmen must take legislation like this serious, as animal-rights extremists are working to just get HB 989 on the books. This is a tactic, the Sportsmen’s Alliance has seen them use before, and we know they will just come back year after year to broaden the language to completely wipe out hunting with dogs and increase burdensome requirements on caring for pets. In 2016, Connecticut became the first in the nation to pass such legislation and this year they are back trying to get legal representation for all animals.
The Civil Justice Subcommittee was only the first of three committees HB 989 was referred to for consideration. HB 989’s next stop should be the House Justice Appropriations Committee. Please use our take action button to email the committee urging them to oppose HB 989.
Don’t forget to share this with your family, friends and fellow sportsmen and urge them to email the committee opposing HB 989.
