Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, the House Judiciary Committee is expected to hear HB 1551, which strengthens protections for firearm manufacturers against nuisance lawsuits arising from the criminal misuse of their products by third parties.

Key Provisions of HB 1551
As previously reported, HB 1551:
- serves as a necessary state-level companion to the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), closing loopholes that activists use to bypass federal protections in state courts,
- protects lawful manufacturers from “nuisance” lawsuits that attempt to hold them liable for the absence of features not required by federal law, such as unproven “smart gun” technology or magazine disconnects, and
- shields manufacturers from liability for not including non-standard features.
