Last week, the Indianapolis City-County Council approved and sent Proposal 207, 2024 to Mayor Joe Hogsett for consideration.
Proposal 207, 2024, was brought forth in hopes of curbing irresponsible dog breeders and reducing shelter intakes. Unfortunately, it goes too far, and the amendment offered and accepted does not do enough to stop the government overreach.
As previously reported, this egregious proposal requires the owners of any unaltered dogs to annually register in the “free” Unaltered Animal Registry. The registry is not so free on several levels. Upon registering, you agree to adhere to the Guidelines for Responsible Unaltered Animal Ownership (more details can be found here).
Email Mayor Hogsett using this link and urge him not to lump responsible dog owners and breeders into the animal “care” advocates unsavory category of “backyard” breeders. Ask him to OPPOSE Proposal 207, 2024, and instead look into fair and effective solutions to reduce shelter intakes, stray dogs, and homeless pets that do not penalize responsible dog owners.
Sportsmen and women must take local proposals like this seriously. Animal rights advocates will return year after year to broaden the burdensome requirements of caring for pets with hopes of wiping out hunting with dogs. If you have family and friends who live in Marion County, do not forget to share this important alert with them.
