Idaho is now just one signature away from securing a permanent shield for its hunting heritage after the House unanimously passed S 1241. Yesterday, March 18, the House approved a vital bill that guarantees legal protection for our sporting dogs and working animals by stripping local governments of the power to enact patchwork ordinances banning them. As radical activists across the country ramp up their 2026 campaign to dismantle hunting, Idaho is responding to the call and ensuring hunting with one of our best friends is preserved.
Take Action: Urge Governor Little to Sign S 1241
Use the Take Action button to email the Governor and ask him to sign S 1241 into law. This bill will make Idaho the first state to take a serious step toward protecting the future of hunting from the growing attacks already happening in 2026.
The Fight Against Anti-Hunting Extremism
With animal rights groups pushing IP 28 in Oregon to ban hunting and fishing, and anti-hunting-with-dogs language recently tucked into the 2026 federal Farm Bill, securing these protections for Idaho’s hunting dogs is more important than ever.
As previously reported, S 1241 does more than just protect our best hunting buddy; it serves as a powerful signal to other states and the Federal Government that:
- Hunting dogs are working partners, not just pets. Idaho is pushing back against other states and federal overreach that seeks to reclassify our dogs and restrict our ability to hunt, test, and trial.
- States’ rights matter. While animal extremists try to sneak anti-hunting language into “must-pass” agriculture legislation or try to get people to vote on misleading ballot initiatives banning hunting, Idaho is proactively passing vital protections for our sporting traditions.
- Idaho is the first to hold the line. While other states have passed similar laws in the past, Idaho is the first to act in direct response to the massive 2026 escalation of attacks on our sporting heritage. S 1241 provides the modern blueprint for how states must preemptively shield their citizens and hunting partners from the “incremental bans” in Oregon’s IP 28 and the anti-hunting language being snuck into the Federal Farm Bill.
- The Sportsmen community provides the backbone of conservation funding, and we will not allow radical activists to crater our interests through emotional blackmail or vague “animal welfare” mandates.
