Tomorrow, May 5, the House Agriculture & Conservation Committee is scheduled to hear two sportsmen bills that will expand hunting and trapping opportunities in the Land of Lincoln.
Hearing Details and Live Stream Access
The hearing will take place at 2 p.m. in room 115 of the Capitol Building in Springfield. If you are unable to attend in person, you can watch the hearing online.
Both Senate Bill 2756 and Senate Bill 3152 have already passed the Illinois Senate with unanimous, bipartisan support.
SB 2756: Modernizing Deer Hunting Standards
This bill seeks to update the Illinois Wildlife Code regarding centerfire rifles. Currently, hunters are restricted to a single-shot capacity. SB 2756 would increase this to a three-round capacity (combined magazine and chamber).
SB 3152: Updating Trapping Regulations
This measure focuses on the technical standards for trapping within the state by replacing the term “leghold” with the industry-standard “foothold” throughout the Wildlife Code, and it increases the maximum allowable size for foothold traps used in water for beaver and otter from 7.5 inches to 8.5 inches.
