Apparently, Illinois’ animal-rights advocates want to follow in the steps of Connecticut. In 2016, Connecticut became the first state to pass a law that allowed a cat or dog legal representation in criminal court.
Today, at 4 p.m., in room C-1 of the Stratton Building, the House Judiciary – Criminal Committee is scheduled to hear a bill to do just that in Illinois. House Bill 1169 allows the court to appoint an attorney or a supervised law student to represent the health or safety of a cat or dog.
Sportsmen must take legislation like this serious, as animal-rights extremists are working to just get HB 1169 on the books. This is a tactic the Sportsmen’s Alliance has seen them use before, and we know they will just come back year after year to broaden the language to completely wipe out hunting with dogs and increase burdensome requirements on caring for pets.
Please use our take action button to email the committee urging them to oppose HB 1169.
