Animal-rights activists love to say they are only about animal welfare. What they won’t tell you is that they are really behind legislation that continually restricts or bans hunting and trapping. They will not tell you that ending hunting and trapping in America is chief among their long-term goals, and bills like Illinois’ House Bill 2900 are an important piece of the puzzle for them.
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m., in the capitol building room 115, the House Agriculture & Conservation committee is scheduled to hear HB 2900, a bill that animal-rights activists are using as a toehold to expand their reach and influence to implement bigger bans in the future.
HB 2900 is aimed at banning coyote contests but is written to ban any contest or competition taking any fur-bearing mammal, with limited exemptions.
Please use our Take Action button to email the committee members urging them to OPPOSE HB 2900.
Coyotes are North America’s most abundant predator species, with healthy populations in every corner of the country. Being highly adaptable, coyotes have come to occupy just about every type of landscape in both urban and rural settings.
In fact, coyotes are so adaptable that in many areas controlling their numbers has been a major problem for fish and wildlife managers. Coyote contests are one important tool to control the population and reduce the negative consequences of extremely high populations, including the spread of disease, predation of newborn livestock, and attacks on pets and humans. HB 2900 would eliminate this important wildlife management tool. Sportsmen throughout the Prairie State must stand up and be counted on this one.
Don’t forget to share this message with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to email the committee urging them to OPPOSE HB 2900.
