Last week, the Nebraska 2023 legislative session adjourned sine die. This means the regular legislative session is completed for the year.
This year, the legislative session was quiet for sportsmen with only a handful of sportsmen-related bills introduced, and only one pro-sportsmen bill being signed into law by Governor Jim Pillen.
Legislative Bill 77 further strengthens Nebraska’s firearm preemption law ensuring home rule charter, counties, cities, and villages shall not have the power to regulate ownership, possession, storage, transportation, sale, or transfer of firearms or other weapons, except as expressly provided by state law. LB 77 also removes the requirement for Nebraska’s citizens who can legally possess and own a handgun to obtain a permit to carry a concealed firearm. This does not eliminate the permit-to-carry system. Those that wish to carry concealed in states that recognize Nebraska’s concealed carry permit can still apply to receive a permit to carry.
Even though the 2023 legislative session is over, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities in the Cornhusker State as you never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.

Please share this message with your family and friends as sportsmen throughout Nebraska must continue to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
