Last Tuesday, April 25, was Nevada’s crossover deadline for bills to pass out of their house of origin.
A big win for sportsmen, Assembly Bill 102, a bill to ban coyote contests and levy huge fines against those who organize them was defeated.
Unfortunately, two bills of serious concern to sportsmen did make it through crossover.
Assembly Bill 355, a bill to prohibit those under 21 from handling or possessing a semiautomatic rifle or shotgun (even while hunting). AB 355 has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Senate Bill 269 that will amend existing law to prohibit the tethering of dogs for all hunting and training activities. Under current law, such activities are exempt, but none of the remaining exemptions will apply to these sporting activities if the bill passes. SB 269 has been referred to the Assembly Natural Resources Committee.
Neither bill has a hearing date scheduled yet. Rest assured, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will inform you when a hearing date has been scheduled and action is needed.
Don’t forget to share this message with your family, friends and fellow sportsmen asking them to also take action when the time comes. Nevada needs all its sportsmen to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
