On Oct. 20, after a heated discussion, the New Jersey Assembly Appropriations Committee passed Assembly Bill 4769 by a party-line vote of 7-4. But we already knew this was going to pass as the Speaker of the General Assembly, Craig Coughlin, announced at the Oct. 13 press conference that they are “anticipating voting on it October 27.”
At this time, we do not know if there is another hearing date, but we will keep you informed as soon as that date is available.
In the meantime, please email your Assemblymember and urge them to OPPOSE A4769.
A4769 is not the gun safety bill that anti-gun legislators say it is. This extremely restrictive bill affects ALL gun owners by making several changes to the Firearm Purchaser Identification Card (FPIC), which is required to purchase any firearm, including a rifle or a shotgun for hunting.
The bill sponsor continues to call A4769 a work in progress, yet none of the suggested concerns by pro-gun legislators have been amended into the bill.
We applaud Assemblyman Brian Bergman, Antwan McClellan, Kevin Rooney and Jay Webber for standing strong for hunters, shooters and gun owners by voting “No” on A4769.
Forward this information to your family, friends and fellow sportsmen in New Jersey and urge them to join the fight as law-abiding New Jerseyans need everyone to email their Assemblymember and tell them to vote NO to A4769.
