The Sportsmen’s Alliance has watched Senate Bill 41 closely since it started moving through the legislative process. This important bill repeals the state’s duplicative permit-to-purchase law, as federal law already requires all firearm dealers to initiate a criminal background check for all purchases and transfers of a firearm.
Last Friday, March 24, Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed SB 41, even with the bill having enough bipartisan support to override his veto. On Monday, the Senate acted and overrode the governor’s veto. This morning, the House finalized the override of the governor’s veto, thus repealing the century-old permit-to-purchase law.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance thanks all the lawmakers who stood fast to protect the firearm freedoms of North Carolina sportsmen.
