Last week, April 30, the North Dakota 2023 legislation session adjourned sine die. This means the legislative session is completed. The following bills were sent to Gov. Doug Burgum, which he signed into law.
HB 1134 allows members of the North Dakota National Guard who live outside the state to pay resident fees for hunting and fishing licenses.
HB 1224 allows a dog handler to carry a handgun during the recovery of a big game animal.
HB 1233 allows an 11- to 13-year-old who holds a youth deer hunting permit to hunt in the regular gun season.
HB 1409 removes the state’s requirement that the nonresident youth hunter’s state of residence provides reciprocal licensing agreements to allow the purchase a resident license to fish and hunt small game and waterfowl.
HB 1340 enhances the preemption of firearms giving the state the sole authority to regulate firearms.
HB 2297 allows the issuance of a lifetime combination license to certified game and fish department volunteer instructors.
SB 2382 changes multiple areas of the current law regarding motorboat registration and lowers the classification of offenses and fine amounts.
On April 27, HB 1487, a bill to protect sportsmen’s credit card privacy, was sent to Gov. Burgum for his signature.
Even though the 2023 legislative session is over, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities in the Peace Garden State as you never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.
