Next Wednesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 7, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Commission is holding its critical May meeting, and the decisions made at this meeting will directly impact your ability to hunt and trap in the Centennial State, including the finalization of all big game license numbers for the 2026 season.
We need a strong showing of orange and camouflage, either in person or online, to ensure the Commission hears from the boots-on-the-ground conservationists who actually fund the state’s wildlife management.
Items on the Agenda:
- Big Game License Numbers: Final approval of all limited license numbers for black bear, deer, elk, pronghorn, and moose for 2026.
- Wolf Program Update: A scheduled briefing on the gray wolf reintroduction and management program leading off the Day 2 agenda.
- Firearms Safety Course Fee: Final rulemaking to establish a $52 fee for the training records required by SB25-003.
- Prairie Dog Conservation: A briefing on conservation programs for this keystone species.
- 2026–2036 Strategic Plan: Anticipated final approval of the state’s new 10-year roadmap for wildlife and parks.
- General Public Comment: Your opportunity to address the Commission on issues impacting Colorado’s sporting traditions.

- Where: Grand Junction Convention Center (159 Main St, Grand Junction, CO)
- Format: Hybrid (In-person and virtual via YouTube)
Our vital wildlife resources are entrusted to the Commission’s care, and that is why the Commissioners must hear from us, the sportsmen. Our voices matter, let’s make sure they’re heard. We are no longer just stewards of the land and water. We ARE the frontline defenders of a way of life increasingly under scrutiny.
If you cannot attend in-person you can also watch online.
Written Comments can be submittedvia the official portal.
There has never been a more crucial time in sportsmen’s history than now to be involved and engaged in protecting our way of life. Anti-hunting groups are becoming increasingly organized in Colorado. We cannot afford to stay silent while our traditions are on the chopping block. Share this email with your family and friends. Urge them to join the fight with you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance. The legacy of hunting, fishing, and trapping depends on our actions today.
