Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Committee met to take public testimony on a bill to prohibit those under 21 from purchasing a rifle or shotgun. This bill was poised to destroy the firearm freedoms of law-abiding young Americans who shoot, hunt or defend themselves with a firearm, but the bill was held for further study.
The committee decided to hold H 5894 for further study so they could review all testimony received. They will decide later whether to bring this bill forward or keep it in the committee without a vote.
As previously reported, Rhode Island’s law-abiding citizens under the age of 21 should not be discriminated against simply based on age. This is gun control on hysterics, with no connection to the real world or reduction of violent crime as a plausible rationale for such a draconian move.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor this important legislation and will email you when action is needed. In the meantime, check out our legislative map to see the other bills the Sportsmen’s Alliance are watching in Rhode Island and around the nation.
