Tomorrow, Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6, the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks (GFP) Commission is scheduled to meet and review several proposals and petitions that directly affect seasons and license allocations for the upcoming year. Participation from the sporting community is highly encouraged.
Why Attendance is Important
Key items on the agenda include:
- Public Hearing & Open Forum
- License Application & Seasons: Discussions regarding license applications for antelope and turkey and hunting seasons for deer, elk, waterfowl, and bighorn.
- Jackrabbit Hunting Season: Evaluating a petition to modify specific regulations for this season.
- Conservation and Habitat Management: Updates on the Chronic Wasting Disease Action Plan and funding for various habitat initiatives.
- Informational items: Discussions on nest predator bounty program, elk action plan, Lake Sharpe Fishery update, and more.
Why You Should Attend
Decisions are made by those who show up. Anti-hunting groups often use these public forums to pressure the Commission into restrictive policies. We need a strong showing of orange and camo in the room to remind the Department that South Dakota is where you “Hunt the Greatest” and must remain that way.
Meeting Details and Location
- Dates: Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6.
- Location: State Library Commons, 800 Governors Drive, Pierre

Defend South Dakota Sporting Traditions
Don’t forget to share this email with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen. Anti-hunting groups are becoming increasingly vocal in these public forums. If we aren’t there to defend science-based management and our sporting traditions, they will be.
Stand with the Sportsmen’s Alliance and make sure the Commission hears from us, the sportsmen, who actually fund the conservation and protection of our wildlife resources in South Dakota.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing, and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler, and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square, and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
