Yesterday, March 13, the Rhode Island Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture heard Senate Bill 2732, a bill to ban hunting. The committee voted to hold the bill for further study. Like the decision with the identical house version, House Bill 7294, this means the committee will review all testimony received and decide at a later date whether to bring this bill forward or keep it locked in the committee without a vote.
As previously reported, S.2732 prohibits hunting where “man-made structures and/or natural barriers” are designed to limit an animal’s free movement. It is anybody’s guess what this means, but obviously includes roads, rivers, streams, hills, canals, fences, and an infinite multitude of other “obstacles” that exist everywhere in the state.
Please keep an eye on your inbox, as we will continue to monitor H.7294 and S.2732 and alert you when the next call to action is needed.
