There’s no denying that several groups in the U.S. are working hard to stop YOU from hunting, fishing, or trapping. Groups like the Humane Society of the U.S., PETA, Center For Biological Diversity, and others, want to stop you from picking up a gun or bow and going hunting, or casting a lure for fish. Those groups have stated their goals publicly, and have them in writing. There’s no doubt that more anti-hunting legislation will be coming in 2012. As hunters, we need to be ready—and stay informed.
One of the best ways to stay informed and to protect your hunting privileges is to sign up for the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance no-cost Sentry program. Sentries are needed in all 50 states to work to protect dove, deer and predator hunting, fishing, bowhunting seasons, trapping opportunities and other sporting interests. Sentries help spread the word among the hunting community when anti-hunting and animal rights groups begin efforts to stop hunting, fishing, trapping, recreational shooting and conservation.
The Sentry program is a; “We’ll watch your back, and you watch our back” type program. This is part of the USSA’s watchdog efforts to protect and advance America’s hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage. We’re watching legislation in Washington, DC, in the 50 states, and at state and federal game departments and agencies, plus in the courts. When a bill or proposal is discovered that negatively impacts those outdoor opportunities, the USSA takes action, prepares to testify, and alerts sportsmen and sportswomen and win public support. The USSA also sends out alerts and e-newsletters to help you stay informed.
By performing this valuable service, the USSA is the eyes and ears of hunting and outdoors communities across America. We want—and need—you to join us. If you are already one of the USSA Sentries, encourage a friend to sign up also.
