Earlier this month, the South Carolina 2025 legislation session adjourned sine die. This means the regular legislative session is completed for the year.
This year, the legislative session was quiet for sportsmen with only a handful of sportsmen-related bills introduced. Two bills, H.3813 and S.345, completed the legislative process and were sent to Governor Henry McMasters, which he signed into law.
H.3813 relates to still hunting and hunting with dogs for bears in Game Zone 1. H.3813 was signed into law on May 12.
S.345 prohibits hunting or attempting to hunt or take a wild turkey on or over any baited area, with limited exceptions. S.345 was signed May 8.
Year One Down in Two-Year Legislative Session
2025 is the first year of the two-year legislative session in South Carolina. This means bills will carry over and be eligible for consideration in 2026. The following bills did not make it to the governor’s desk but will be eligible for consideration next year.
H.3872, the “Hunting Heritage Protection Act,” requires the Department of Natural Resources to adopt policies and procedures to ensure that there is no-net-loss of department managed land for hunting and fishing.
H.3930 prohibits a payment card network from requiring or incentivizing the use of a merchant category code (MCC) in a manner that distinguishes a firearm retailer from other retailers and a covered entity shall not assign a firearm retailer a MCC that distinguishes the firearm retailer from other retailers. The bill also allows the Attorney General to investigate reasonable allegations that a person or entity, including a government entity.

We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square and at the ballot box.
