Yesterday, May 9, the South Carolina 2024 legislative session adjourned sine die. This means the regular legislative session is completed for the year.
The 2024 regular session was quiet for sportsmen. Several sportsmen-related bills were introduced, and the bills below are heading to Governor Henry McMaster for consideration.
H. 1051 extends the watercraft restrictions on Lake H. Taylor Blalock for five years for the purpose of hunting waterfowl on department-leased premises.
H. 4378 amends the restrictions and limits on striped bass fishing to include hybrid bass.
H. 4612 allows the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to issue permits for taking feral hogs while airborne in a helicopter for the land specifically listed on the permit. The permit must also be in the hunter’s immediate possession.
H. 4611 creates a misdemeanor offense for intentionally removing or destroying an electronic collar placed on a dog by its owner and establishes a penalty schedule that includes fines or imprisonment.
H. 5007 creates a fishing hook restriction for the Lower Saluda River between June 16 and September 13.
Even though the 2024 regular legislative session is over, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities across the state and will inform you if any action is needed.
