Last week, the South Dakota House passed a bill that would have put the state’s Pheasant Capitol of America title at risk by a vote of 51 to 19. Earlier this week, the Senate Natural Resources Committee recommend a “do pass” on this anti-sportsman bill. Thankfully, the full Senate recognized the detriment House Bill 1136 and voted to defeat the bill 5 to 29.
House Bill 1236 would have expanded the safety zone from 660 feet to one-quarter mile (1,320 feet).
It is no secret that animal extremists are working to end our way of life piece by piece. HB 1236 is exactly that type of legislation and the Senate said, “not in South Dakota.”
The Sportsmen’s Alliance thanks those senators who voted to support and protect the sportsmen of the Mount Rushmore State.
There has never been a more important time in sportsmen’s history than now to be involved and engaged in protecting our way of life. We are not only fighting animal extremists, but, sadly, we are now fighting legislators that we thought were friends who have turned on us.
We each must make a commitment to ourselves and future generations to stand up and fight, protect, and defend against the rising tide of animal extremism.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
