Just as important as our hunting rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader and bow, is our hunting dog. Animal extremists are continually trying to stop the use of dogs for hunting. That is why Montana SB 96 is very important; it protects sporting and working dogs doing what they were born and bred to do.
Montana Senate Bill 96, the Working Animal Protection Act, prohibits a local government from enacting an ordinance or resolution that terminates, bans, effectively bans or creates an undue hardship relating to the job or use of a working animal or animal enterprise in the commerce, service, legal hunting, agriculture, husbandry, transportation, law enforcement, ranching, entertainment, education or exhibition.
Last week, the Senate Local Government Committee took steps to do just that. They passed SB 96 by a vote of 8 to 3. It was quickly sent to the Senate floor for consideration. Earlier today, this important bill passed by a vote of 40 to 11.
