The 2026 legislative session is expected to adjourn by the end of the week, but not without a parting shot at our heritage and lifestyle. Four radical bills, SB 749, SB 727, SB 27, HB 21, and HB 40, are on the Governor’s desk, masquerading as “safety” while stripping away your rights.
One bill tries to buy us off with a narrow “hunting exemption,” but we aren’t falling for it. Our rights aren’t favors to be handed out in small doses. We are Virginia’s top conservationists and its most law-abiding citizens; we aren’t the problem, and we refuse to be treated like second-class citizens.

SB 749: The Future Ban on Semi-Automatic Ownership
The most sweeping blow comes from SB 749, which effectively ends the future of semi-automatic ownership in Virginia. By banning the import, sale, and manufacture of “assault firearms”—including many rifles and shotguns used for predator control—this bill treats common sporting tools like contraband. While it includes a hollow “grandfather clause,” it bans the sale of magazines over 15 rounds and ensures that the next generation of Virginia hunters will be stripped of the same rights we enjoy today.
SB 727: A Legal Minefield for Public Property
Don’t be fooled by the political bait. SB 727 redefines many common hunting and sport-shooting firearms as “assault weapons” and bans their carry on all public property. The moment you step out of the woods to grab a coffee or cross a public street, you enter a legal minefield. This bill transforms a routine walk to your truck into a potential criminal record. We won’t be bought off with “carve-outs” while law-abiding sportsmen are turned into accidental felons.
HB 40: Criminalizing Firearm Craftsmanship
HB 40 targets the century-old tradition of firearm craftsmanship. Banning unserialized parts and home-built tools threatens hobbyists and hunters with criminal records for simply maintaining their own gear.
SB 27 & HB 21: The Death of the Firearm Industry
Finally, SB 27 and HB 21 are designed to bankrupt the very industry that supports our outdoor heritage. By inviting frivolous, predatory lawsuits against retailers and manufacturers, these bills aim to regulate our local gun shops out of existence.
