The 2026 Virginia Legislative Session has adjourned after a relentless assault on our heritage. While your outreach helped us stall extreme proposals in committee, the margin was razor-thin, and several dangerous bills are now on Governor Spanberger’s desk.
The Governor has until April 13 to act. Use the Take Action button below to urge her to VETO these attacks on law-abiding citizens. In the meantime, our Office of Litigation is reviewing legal options.
Bills Heading to the Governor:
- SB749/HB217: Bans common semi-auto firearms and magazines over 15 rounds; restricts under-21 possession.
- SB727/HB1524: Outlaws carrying many standard firearms on public property based on cosmetic features.
- SB643/HB1525: Broadly prohibits firearm purchase and possession for legal adults under 21.
- SB496/HB110: Restricts your right to keep a firearm in your vehicle for self-defense.
- SB323/HB40: Bans home-built firearms and penalizes owners of previously legal unfinished frames.
- SB27/HB21: Subjects the firearm industry to frivolous, “standard-of-conduct” lawsuits designed to bankrupt manufacturers.
Legislative Victories: Defeated or Delayed Proposals
Thanks to your pressure, we successfully stopped a $500 suppressor tax (HB 207), a 5-day waiting period (HB 700), a 11% ammo tax (HB 919), a “Permit-to-Purchase” licensing scheme (SB 797/HB 1359), and an attempt to restrict hunting with dogs (HB 1396 & SB 770).
The Fight Continues: The April 21 Special Election
While the session is over, our work is not. Animal extremists and anti-gun groups never clock out. They are already pivoting to the interim period, and their first target is the April 21 Special Election.
With the legislative balance in Richmond sitting on a knife-edge, this election is a ‘must-win’ for our community. While the April 21 vote is a referendum on congressional redistricting, the results will signal the political momentum for 2027. If we lose ground now, the anti-sportsman majority will be emboldened to bring these very bans back to the table next year. We cannot afford to give them a ‘rubber stamp’ mandate to dismantle our heritage.
We’ve seen it in neighboring states: the moment we look away, they strike. We need you to stay engaged, show up at the polls on April 21, and be ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice.
