On Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Commission is meeting, and the stakes for the sporting community have never been higher. We are facing a coordinated assault on our traditions, from radical petitions to ban fur trading to new, unconstitutional hurdles for firearm owners.
The agenda will cover a fur ban petition, firearm restrictions from SB25-003, big and small game regulations, and more, including a public comment period.
We need a visible front of blaze orange and camo in that meeting room to remind the Commission that science-based management and the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation are not up for negotiation.
If we don’t show up, the loudest voices in the room will be the ones trying to shut you down.
Why Attendance is Necessary
The Commission is currently weighing decisions that will permanently alter hunting and trapping in our state. This isn’t just about one season or one species; it’s about a legislative and regulatory “creep” designed to slowly dismantle the lifestyle we love.
The Fight: Key Agenda Items
- The Fur Ban Petition: Activists are pushing a citizen petition to ban the commercial sale and trade of fur in Colorado. This is a direct attack on furbearer management and a gateway to ending trapping entirely.
- Firearm Restrictions (SB25-003): The Commission is opening “General Provisions” to implement a new Semiautomatic Firearm Safety Program. This includes mandated 12-hour training courses and “eligibility cards” just to exercise your Second Amendment rights.
- Big Game & Small Game Regulations: Final votes on Chapter W-2 and W-5 are on the docket, impacting your tags and season structures for the coming year.
Meeting Details: Date, Time, and Location
- When: Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, at 8 a.m. on both days
- Where: DoubleTree by Hilton, Westminster
P.S. If you cannot attend in person, you can still submit a written comment and comment virtually, but you must submit and register by noon tomorrow, Friday, February 27. Use the links below to sign up:
United We Stand: The Power of the Collective
Make sure you forward this to your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen and women and firearms owners. Now is not the time for the “silent majority” to stay home. Our opponents are organized, well-funded, and they are counting on us to stay on the sidelines. But when we stand together as a visible front of blaze orange, we send an unmistakable message: Colorado’s sportsmen are the backbone of conservation, and we will not be ignored.
We need everyone in that room and virtually to show the Commission that we are united, we are watching, and we will protect our heritage for the next generation. Urge your family and friends to join you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance in the fight! We don’t just represent ourselves; we represent the future of Colorado’s outdoors.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing, and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler, and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square, and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions. Stay connected to the Sportsmen’s Alliance: Online, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
