Last week, the Public Safety/Hunting bill, House Bill 24, unanimously passed the House Transportation: Highway Safety and Policy subcommittee. It is now scheduled to be heard by the full House Transportation Committee tomorrow, Tuesday, January 23rd, at 9:00 a.m., in House Committee Room B-205.
HB 24 authorizes road whips, who are operating vehicles during certain fox hunts, to display flashing amber warning lights when such vehicles are not in motion for the purpose of warning other vehicles of such a hunt happening in the area. The bill requires such vehicles to also display a sign reading “Horse Crossing With Rider.”
As previously reported, this important bill will not only protect the hounds and the horse and rider, but the general public as well. This bill gives road whips a flashing light and signage to help give an unsuspecting driver a warning to stop or continue with caution.
