Animal rights activists say stopping the wear and use of fur is about stopping the cruel treatment of animals. This is far from the truth, as the fur industry is heavily regulated. This year Senator Stanford brought back his prohibition on fur as Senate Bill 6294. This bill is scheduled to be heard Thursday, January 25, at 10:30 a.m., virtual and in SHR 2 by the Senate Business, Financial Services, Gaming & Trade Committee.
SB 6294 bans the sale, offer for sale, display for sale, trade, or otherwise distribute for monetary or nonmonetary consideration a fur product in the state.
Senator Stanford did offer some exemptions in this year’s version, but sportsmen will not be fooled by this attempt to win our favor. We cannot give Senator Stanford and his animal rights activist friends an inch, because they will come back wanting the complete prohibition on the use of fur. They have not been shy of their real intent to end outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, issue by issue and state by state across our great nation.
This destructive bill works towards the decimation of all trade in fur, leaving trappers and others who rely on fur products with no way to sustain their activities. The impacts will be felt far and wide, including on all-fur products and any items that utilize fur in production, such as fishing lures, boots, gloves, or other clothing, jewelry, and toys.
Not only does SB 6294 want to destroy the fur trade, but it also shows that legislators who support this extremism evidently want to tell citizens what they can and can’t wear or use in the Evergreen State.
Please use our Take Action buttons to email the members of the committee urging them to OPPOSE SB 6294. Committee members need to know that sportsmen will not follow the dictate of animal rights activists under the ruse of protecting animals.
Don’t forget to share this message with your friends, family, and fellow sportsmen urging them to also email the members of the committee asking them to oppose SB 6294.
