Instead of its normal full three-day hybrid meeting starting Thursday, May 14, the Washington Fish and Wildlife has canceled the in-person Sequim gathering. It is replaced by two tightly focused, one-day virtual special committee meetings on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Anti-hunting and preservationist groups continuously lobby these committees behind closed doors to erode harvest frameworks and unbalance policy. Sportsmen must stay engaged to ensure science-based management dictates state policy.
Meeting Schedule & Agenda Items
- 10:00 AM: Special Big Tent Committee Meeting
- Decision-Making Project: Structuring the frameworks used to finalize wildlife policy.
- Community Support & Engagement: Evaluating strategies to shift public sentiment regarding agency work.
- 1:00 PM: Special Fish Committee Meeting
- North of Falcon Outcomes: Review of the finalized 2026 salmon season and harvest quotas.
- Coho Abundance Review: Analyzing the regional Oregon Production Index (OPI) data framework. This index provides the critical abundance forecasts used by Washington and Oregon managers to shape joint Columbia River fishing rules.
How to Monitor and Participate
Because these are designated as web-only special committee sessions, the typical live open public testimony structure is restricted compared to a full hybrid meeting. However, sportsman engagement remains vital:
- Stream it Live: Monitor the real-time deliberations via Zoom or watch the live broadcasts on TVW.
- Submit Written Testimony: You can directly voice opposition to restrictive management models or arbitrary policy shifts by submitting formal comments via the online Commission Contact Page.
- Review Recorded Sessions: If you cannot view the live feed on Thursday, review the video logs on the WDFW 2026 Meeting Archive to track how individual commissioners voted and behaved.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance is actively fighting to protect and advance our outdoor legacy from restrictive regulations, but our voice alone isn’t enough; the Commission needs to look out into the crowd, in this case online, and see you standing with us. Let’s make sure the outdoor community is well-represented. Please log in tomorrow to make your voice heard!
There has never been a more crucial time in sportsmen’s history than now to be involved and engaged in protecting our way of life. We cannot afford to stay silent while our traditions are on the chopping block. Share this email with your family and friends. Urge them to join the fight with you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance. The legacy of hunting, fishing, and trapping depends on our actions today.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing, and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler, and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square, and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
