Last week, the majority in the Senate Law & Justice Committee recommended House Bill 1163, the firearm registration bill, do pass and it was referred to the Senate Ways & Means Committee.
This Friday, April 4, the Senate Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a public hearing on this egregious bill to register lawful gun owners. Use the Take Action button to email the committee and urge them to vote “No” on HB 1163.
Firearm haters think knowing which law-abiding Washingtonian owns a firearm will reduce the state violent crime rate. We know this is not logical, because criminals do not follow the law now and will not register their firearm if HB 1163 is signed into law. This leaves Washington in the exact same place – except they will have a list of everyone who has actually bought a firearm legally.
As previously reported, House Bill 1163, requires Washingtonians to apply for a permit to purchase before buying or transferring a firearm. In their goal to eliminate our values and lifestyle, animal and gun-control extremists want you to pay outrageous costs and fees along the way. There is no minimum or maximum fee mentioned in the bill for processing the application, fingerprinting, criminal background check or safety training with a live-fire component, nor is there a cost or funding mechanism to pay for the set-up and upkeep of the new state registry.
It does not make sense for a state that is facing a budget deficit upwards of $15 billion in the coming years to implement a system with unknown costs to track its law-abiding citizens. Because only the law-abiding will follow the law, leaving the criminals who are causing the violent crime rate still unchecked.
