All commission meetings are meaningful, but the upcoming meeting this Thursday, August 14, through Saturday, August 16, will bring a change to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Commission leadership. This hybrid meeting will be held at Oxford Suites Bellingham, 4051 Meridian St., in Bellingham.
On Thursday, August 14, the agenda consists of the Big Tent, Habitat, Fish, and Wildlife committee meetings.
On Friday, August 15, at 8 a.m., the commission will vote on a new Commission Chair and Vice-Chair before the 9 a.m. open public input period.
Saturday, August 16, will be a short day with the open public input period beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a meeting debrief and future meeting planning into an executive session.
Current Commission Chair Barbara Baker opted to step down after several contentious years of leadership, which culminated in a fiery meeting after the Sportsmen’s Alliance revealed alarming instances of collusion with animal-rights organizations, potential Open Meeting Act violations and other concerning activities, including potential records destruction. The Sportsmen’s Alliance has petitioned Governor Ferguson to remove four commissioners who have routinely engaged in ongoing activities that are detrimental to transparent government and accountability. Likewise, our Public Records Act lawsuit will receive a summary-judgement hearing on Friday, Aug. 15.
Washington sportsmen have been bullied long enough by the commission and animal extremists, and the Sportsmen’s Alliance will not allow it to happen any longer. Join us or donate to the Sportsmen’s Legal Defense Fund to help stand up against the relentless assault on our values and lifestyle. Present and future generations are depending on your willingness to fight to protect the future of hunting, fishing, and trapping.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance guarantees hunting, fishing and trapping for the American sportsman now and forever. We’re there when sportsmen need us most. We are the only organization specifically created to protect the individual hunter, angler, and trapper – no matter the threat. We will never compromise when it comes to defending our way of life in the courts, in the legislatures, in the public square and at the ballot box. We make this promise to the American sportsman: we will never give up and never give in while proudly securing our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
