Last Wednesday, March 12, was crossover day for the Washington 2025 legislative session. This means bills that did not pass out of their house of origin are essentially defeated for the year.
Even though measures like HB 1685 and HB 1930, bills that attempted to “restructure” the fish and wildlife commission received a lot of fanfare, neither bill was brought up for a vote in their house of origin committee, nor were others related to sportsmen and our issues. As previously reported, however, one bill of serious concern remains.
House Bill 1163, the freedom-killing bill requiring Washingtonians to apply for a permit-to-purchase before buying or transferring a firearm remains alive. Besides not listing a minimum or maximum cost for processing the application, this measure will require fingerprinting (fee not included), criminal background check (fee not included), safety training with a live-fire component (fee not included), and let’s not forget about the personal information that will be retained in a new state registry.
HB 1163 passed the House on March 8 by a vote of 58 to 38. It is currently waiting to be scheduled for a public hearing in the Senate Law & Justice Committee. Keep an eye on your inbox for the hearing date and take action information.
Don’t forget to share this alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen and encourage them to take action when the time comes. Also urge them to continue that fight by joining you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance in standing up to secure our future against those seeking to destroy our values, beliefs, and traditions.
