In 2023, Governor Polis signed legislation into law prohibiting 18- to 20-year-olds from purchasing semi-automatic rifles and shotguns. Animal extremists and gun-control advocates say this law was about reducing our state’s violent crime rate and not about cratering our hunting and firearm ownership lifestyle. Yet, here they are, back again with another bill, saying an ammunition age restriction will reduce Colorado’s violent crime rate. Criminals are the cause of the Centennial State’s violent crime rate, not its sportsmen and gun owners.
Yesterday, Tuesday, February 25, the House passed HB25-1133, a bill to prohibit 18- to 20-year-olds from purchasing ammunition in-person and by delivery, by a vote of 38 to 27. HB25-1133 is now waiting for committee assignment in the Senate. Keep an eye on your inbox for when the next call to action will be needed.
Senate Bill 25-003 banning “specified semi-automatic” rifles and shotguns was amended into a permit-to-purchase bill and was scheduled to be heard Tuesday, March 4, in the House Judiciary Committee. A bit of good news, the bill was recently removed from the committee schedule. There are still a lot of days left in the legislative session. We will continue to monitor SB25-003.
