Last night, the St. Landry Parish City Council turned their friends and neighbors into lawbreakers by passing the poorly drafted Animal Control Ordnance, jam-packed with government overreach.
“This is truly among the most outrageous animal ordinances we’ve ever seen and we remain appalled at the lack of concern and pure dismissal of problems by the bill sponsor, Councilman Wayne Ardoin, and the other councilmembers who supported this ordinance,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs for the Sportsmen’s Alliance.
During the Dec. 7 Finance Committee meeting (page 21, Item 6), Parish President Jessie Bellard closed out the discussion with, “If that is what the ordinance calls for, then we will have to follow the rules.” The Sportsmen’s Alliance hopes those councilmembers who supported and passed the ACO have all their paperwork in order when an Animal Control officer, police officer and/or any other person with POST (Police Officer Standards and Training) certification comes to their door.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance and its members thank Councilmembers Coby Clavier, Jerry Red, Nancy Carriere, Easton Shelvin and Mildred Thierry for standing up for their concerned constituents by voting ‘no” to the ACO.
