Yesterday, Jan. 25, both Senate Bill 10 and Senate Bill 91 passed the Senate Education, Energy, and the Environment Committee. These two pro-sportsmen bills are a positive step forward for Maryland’s outdoor and hunting heritage. At this time, neither bill has been scheduled for its next hearing, but rest assured the Sportsmen’s Alliance will let you know when action is needed.
SB 10 requires the Department of Natural Resources to make available in a digital or electronic format, all licenses, stamps, permits, registrations, and certificates issued by the department and accept the format as proof of a valid license, stamp, permit, registration or certificate. More states are offering and accepting digital and electronic formats of hunting and fishing licenses, and we are glad to see Maryland stepping into the digital era.
SB 91 allows individuals under the age of 17 to apply for a second or subsequent apprentice hunting license after the first year. This is a positive move to allow for the continued recruitment and retention of young hunters into the fold.
As always, you can check www.sportsmensalliance.org and follow us on social media for breaking updates. Sportsmen throughout the state must stay actively involved to defend our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
