While these bills are stalled in committee, they remain “alive” while the legislature is still in session and could be revived through legislative maneuvers or floor amendments later this session.

The Impact of the Defeated Minnesota Legislation

- HF 3433 (The “Assault Weapon” Ban): This bill attempted to redefine modern hunting rifles as “assault weapons,” effectively banning their use on public land and even suggesting warrantless home inspections for law-abiding owners.
- HF 3402 (The Magazine Ban): This proposal sought to criminalize the possession of standard-capacity magazines (over 10 rounds) with no “grandfather” clause—forcing you to surrender or destroy property you legally own.
- HF 3351 (The Local Patchwork Bill): By attempting to repeal state preemption, this bill would have allowed every city and township to create its own confusing web of ammunition and firearm bans, turning a simple drive to your favorite hunting spot into a legal minefield.
