The Procedural “End-Run” on Gun Rights
The threat to our heritage has returned, and this time, the tactics have shifted. While we successfully held the line against HF 3433, anti-gun legislators have introduced a nearly identical twin: HF 4081. By funneling this bill through the Judiciary Committee instead of Public Safety, anti-gun legislators are trying to bypass public scrutiny. They want to talk about “data,” but we know the truth. They are attempting a procedural “end-run” to bypass scrutiny and fast-track a radical agenda.
Make no mistake: HF 4081 is a direct assault on our way of life. Under the guise of “safety,” this bill would, like HB 3433:
- Bans the sale, manufacture, and transfer of modern hunting rifles and shotguns by redefining them using a broad “feature-based” definition that will reclassify them as a “military-style assault weapon.”
- Requires law-abiding citizens to “certify” their private property with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCW), a database that requires renewal every three years and subjects you to government fees just to keep what you already own.
- Bans hunting with these firearms by restricting their use strictly to private land or licensed ranges. Carrying your certified firearm on public hunting land would become a criminal offense.
- Mandates the surrender or destruction of standard-capacity magazines with zero grandfathering protections. This extreme provision turns owners of common 11-round magazines into felons, facing years of prison time for items they legally bought.
